Two more general thoughts arise. One is the dedication and discipline of a group of young men (some very young) in pursuing their goal. Even getting to be a professional player has involved huge sacrifices.
The other is that, in these days of professional sport, two of the leading players have degrees (Alun Wyn Jones has a law degree – hurrah!). And Jamie Roberts, Wales’s best player of the tournament, is a medical student. All this gives the lie to any suggestion prevalent among teenage boys that education is “girly”.
